In 2021, the historic River Oaks Theatre shuttered for good after 82 years of entertaining Houstonians — or so we thought.

Culinary Khancepts, which also owns State Fare Kitchen & Bar and Liberty Kitchen restaurants and, most significantly, Star Cinema Grill, has completely revitalized the historic theater at 2009 West Gray. With renovations and a food and cocktail menu, theRiver Oaks Theatre reopens to the public on Thursday, October 3.

The menu looks to be fancier than the fare at Star Cinema Grill (which, to be clear, I enjoy). Theater snacks include popcorn, pretzel bites and a variety of candy. Going beyond the traditional, the snack section of the menu includes lobster bites, veal and pork fried meatballs, deviled eggs and seafood cakes with crab, scallops, shrimp, lemon aioli and green apple salad.
